Finale Party for The Office

Do you watch The Office? Or, rather, did you? We're always watching and quoting it around this house, so for the series finale last week, we planned a little party... well, more of a gathering. We invited two good friends who are big fans as well. I went to great lengths to make it as elaborate as possible: I collected over two hours worth of music from The Office, decorated with show imagery and signage, and offered up a menu entirely inspired by foods mentioned and consumed in the show, from pretzels to mixed berry yogurt. We even ran around town to track down some beets, to be used exclusively as props since none of us are beet eaters.

I decided to make the party more on the pretty side of being authentic to the show. One thing I knew we had to have was lemoñadé, so we found some pretty glass bottles of lemonade and I doctored them with a Sharpie. I really wanted to get 15 tiny bottles of vodka but Jose voted that down and we just bought a regular bottle. I also displayed our cocktail shaker from Michael's favorite restaurant. I don't have any official NBC merchandise, so I made everything myself, like the coffee mug, which was just a white mug with a sticker I made and printed out.

I also made little cards for many of the food items, with quotes from when they were mentioned in each episode. Some of these were cheesy pitas, peach iced tea, mixed berry yogurt, jello, and Kit Kat bars. Our friends brought delicious soft pretzels, as well as a George Foreman grill to display. I made Toby's caprese salad, Michael's fettuccine alfredo, Kevin's famous chili, and we had ice cream sandwiches for dessert (mint chocolate chip of course). I even made labels for Schrute Farms "beet wine."

I had a lot of fun finding images to display, both photos actually used in the show and a few pieces of art I whipped up myself. I made a Pretzel Day print, a Wayne Gretzky quote Michael quoted himself, and a big "That's what she said" print. I'm pretty partial to the Threat Level Midnight poster and the Halloween photo of Angela and Sprinkles. I also enjoyed creating decorative items and props for our photo booth (I use that term loosely, we just stood against a wall and took photos). We had an Office Olympics yogurt top medal, diversity day cards, Schrute bucks, Dundies, the comic book Pam made for Jim, and a few other things. I think we'll have to throw another party with the same theme just as an excuse to use all of the stuff again! Each of our guests got to take home a few party favors too; they each got their own Dunder Mifflin certificate, a Dundie, and a CD of music from the show.

The party was a success, and most importantly we had so much fun! It was a treat watching the last episode of one of my favorite shows with people who love it as much as I do. There was a bit of crying and even some screaming on my part. It was such a great way to end the series. As for my outfit, I dressed in sort of an Angela/Pam hybrid style, but it was definitely the Dwight brooch by Kate that made the whole outfit. Speaking of Kate, make sure you take a look at her amazing experience at the Wrap Party for The Office.

Have you ever had a television show themed party? I have a million of ideas for more.

  9. This looks so good!! I hadn't watched the last two seasons, but I caught the series finale and loved it!
Once we had a "Doctor Who" party for the premiere of season six, but it wasn't extremely elaborate. I throw a nerdy 30 party for my husband last year, chock full of decorations, a photo booth, etc etc
I think it's so much fun to have themed parties.
