March Funfair

I am beyond excited for my friends The Honey Trees and the release of their long-awaited new album, Bright Fire on April 8th! The process has taken four years, and I know the end result is going to be absolutely incredible. They created this beautiful short trailer for the album, and recently released two of the songs for listening, "Nightingale," and "Siren." Bright Fire is available for preorder in digital, CD, and vinyl (!!) format here, and if you preorder the CD or vinyl, you'll be entered in a pretty sweet contest. I'm dying to hear the magic these two very talented and lovely people have made! Update: The entire album is now available for streaming here!

Twinkie Chan put together a rather awesome outfit to go see The Grand Budapest Hotel; she even made her own hat! It's got me wishing we lived closer so we could dress up for movies together.

My friend Melissa is an insanely talented seamstress and an all around cool lady, and she just made a very snazzy vintage style dress for a Mad Men sewing challenge. Then she took some really adorable photos in the dress while posing with some of her fabulous vintage home decor. I seriously need Melissa as my personal shopper and clothing-maker!

I don't think it's a secret that Emi of Pygmy Hippo Shoppe is super-duper amazing as heck, and here are two interviews with her about herself and her shoppe, on The Siren and More Than Stores, which feature some great photos and just further prove Emi's bad-assery.

One of my favorite artists, Brittney Lee, worked on Frozen, and has been sharing some art and insight to the process of designing for the film in this series of posts: Elsa and Her Ice Palace, Rosemaling, Elsa, Costume Design, and Family.

The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco just opened its newest exhibit, MAGIC, COLOR, FLAIR: the world of Mary Blair, and we're going to see it next month during a Mary Blair themed Dapper Day evening event. I can't wait, because I've never been to the museum before, and I don't know if I've talked about it quite enough yet, but I'm a little obsessed with Mary Blair! There's a nice article about her and about the exhibit on Juxtapoz.

Kaelah always wears the cutest outfits, but I think my new all-time favorite of hers is this one with a cherry blossom theme. Okay, maybe I have a bit of a bias towards mint and pink pairings.

This Cat Lady brooch made by Kate is so perfect! And it would be a much cuter way to explain the cat hair all over my clothes.

is French artist Juliette Collet's shop, where she sells some of her really neat stationary, accessories, and other goods. I was browsing the shop's new arrivals, and I think I especially need this fruit postcard set… how can I say no to a pastel pineapple?

In last month's Funfair, I shared the work of El Gato Gomez, and I was surprised to find out that not only had she seen the post, she asked to paint me as a mermaid! Um, YES PLEASE? Then she created the fantastic painting below, and it totally blew me away! It sold a few minutes after she put it up for sale, or else I totally would've purchased it myself!

The photos above are Jose's birthday doughnuts on March 1st, and my mismatched socks and shoes from Crazy Day at school during Dr. Seuss Week. This was a really good month for great online content! Aaaand, I just hit 700 followers on Bloglovin, what!? So thank you everyone! Let me know what links caught your eye this month!

  1. Omg, the first photo brought up some serious nostalgia! I'm not sure if anyone else did this... but if you did do you remember swapping a shoe with your best friend back in grade school?! Too much fun.

  5. Brittney Lee was at Emerald City Comic Con this past weekend and my sister met her and got some super cute Disney picture books signed. I didn't go because I'm lame and most of comic-con culture doesn't interest me at all. I'm sure I'll attend one of these years though, just to see what it's like.

Yaaaaay, I'm so glad that you're going to the Mary Blair exhibit! I'm sure it will be the most amazing thing ever.

Oh nooooo, you shouldn't have linked to Juliette Collet's shop. I've been on the prowl for some new art for my walls (despite the fact that I don't ACTUALLY have anything hanging up, the frames are all leaning against stuff) and I'm paralyzed by too many choices! I want to buy something from Blanca Gomez's Etsy shop (she's got a world map print that's soooooo "It's A Small World" it's ridiculous) but I'm scared that it'll take forever to get here and/or get lost in the mail coming all the way from Spain. Ugh.

I hope you got my letter! I sent it last Monday.
