It's A Small World After All

Today Disney is celebrating fifty years since "it's a small world," opened at the New York World's Fair (the official opening was April 22, 1964). Most know the iconic ride for its repetitive theme song, but many like myself love "it's a small world" for its beautiful design, thanks to the extraordinary art direction of Mary Blair. Last Christmas, I crafted my own "small world" sweater for a tacky sweater get-together, but it actually turned out pretty cute, so I thought today would be the perfect time to wear it again. For Christmas, I attached a doll head to my hat for extra kitschiness, but for everyday wear I think the hat by itself will do.

My spiffy new heart necklace sent to me by Ladybird Likes matches my shirt perfectly! Not only does fit into the color palette, it goes with the "small world," theme of friendship and peace. The whole Ladybird Likes shop is so sweet, especially the heart-shaped collection. They're available in different pastel shades, as well as gold, silver, or red glitter. It was so tough to pick a favorite!

Make sure to visit the Small World website! You can create your own virtual doll, and Disney will donate $1 to UNICEF for each one. You can also record a video of yourself singing the theme song, and $1 will be donated for each video. I recorded mine wearing my sweater of course. There's going to be a worldwide sing-along today at all of the Disney parks to celebrate the anniversary; I wish I could be there to see it!

  3. Awww, your sweater looks so good! I hate when people blindly hate on It's A Small World. I'm a huge fan of Mary Blair and the whole ride is a midcentury illustration dream world! It's stunning and makes me starry-eyed for the entire boat ride through. <3 I'm always afraid they'll try to "update" it one day. :/
